AAD Consensus Statement on Psoriasis Therapy

In November 2002, the AAD convened the Psoriasis Therapies Educational Summit. During this summit, dermatologists and other experts developed the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) consensus statement on psoriasis therapies, which is currently used to guide treatment plans for patients with psoriasis. The following table lists the treatments contained in the consensus statement.

  • Corticosteroids (many types/strengths)
  • Tazarotene
  • Calcipotriene
  • Anthralin
  • Tar preparations
  • Keratolytic agents (salicylic acid, lactic acid, urea)

  • UVB (with or w/o topicals and with or w/o oral retinoids)
  • Photochemotherapy  (with or w/o oral retinoids)
  • Methotrexate
  • Cyclosporin

  • Efalizumab
  • Infliximab*

Hospitalization may also be considered when treating pustular and erythrodermic/generalized psoriasis.
